We still aren't at our lodge yet, but our group stopped at the West Thumb Geyser Basin for a quick walkthrough of a series of geysers...our first since arriving at Yellowstone. Laura, our guide and driver, told lots of fun stories of Yellowstone's past as well as some of the science (that we know so far....there's still a lot that's unknown) about geysers and geothermal events.
And this is a REALLY big lake (only part of it is visible from here). One geyser on the lake's edge is called Fishing Hole Geyser because in the olden days, tourists would stand on top of it, cast their line, catch a fish, and then drop it down inside the geyser to cook. Probably not very delicious or healthy, but what a great tale to tell the grandkids!
