Our goal this morning is to get to Flagg Ranch (just a mile south of the South Entrance to Yellowstone National Park) by 12:30 to meet our "snow coach" that will take us to the Snow Lodge in Yellowstone. We wandered a little more in downtown Jackson after breakfast, then checked out of the Wyoming Inn, made a stop for essentials, and headed north. The fog is a little lifted from our sunrise adventures.
But now the roads are getting more snow-covered.
Ah! Here are some blue skies!
Yes! This is going to be a good day! The roads are plowed but still covered. We are in the Grand Teton National Park territory and they don't use salt on their roads because of the danger to animals, soil, and water. That just means we have to drive a little slower, but we are good on time, so all is well.
We officially enter Grand Teton National Park (thank goodness Rodney had an annual pass for the National Parks...they charged us a $25 entrance fee just to drive the few last miles to Flagg Ranch) and then arrive at Flagg Ranch where our snow coaches are awaiting. There are a wide variety of snow coaches, we are in the bombardier...a classic. We are assigned to the middle of the three. That's my orange suitcase poking out of the top of our coach. They did finish pulling the cover completely over the suitcases so my gear was protected.
And here we are lined up and ready to go.
The "bombs," as they are lovingly nicknamed, can technically hold 9 passengers on the U-shaped seats in the back, plus 1 shotgun passenger and the driver. We were supposed to have a "full" bomb with 10 passengers but fortunately someone cancelled at the last minute because we were pretty "full" with just the 8 of us in the back.
