At 4:30 we arrived at Lambert's Meadow Shelter, our home for the night. There were several deer there who came quite close to the shelter and to Judy and Betsey when they were down at the creek filtering water. I later went down and just stood in the creek. Oh, that cold water felt soooo good on my very tired and sore feet!
We met more hikers here at this shelter. Most, though, only stopped for water and /or for a break but were heading on hoping to get closer to Danville so that tomorrow they could have a "zero" day (where you don't do any hiking but just hang out in town at a hotel, watching TV, doing laundry, replenishing supplies, sleeping, taking a hot shower, etc.) or a "nero" day (where you hike for "near zero" miles, i.e., you have a very short hike before you get to town and do all the afore mentioned things). We, however, were glad to be finished for the day. We had a yummy dinner of rice and broccoli casserole with cheese and corn added to it and some "Seltzer" that Betsey had carried all that way for two days. You know that was heavy in her pack but oh what fun it was to have it with dinner. At 7:20 we finished dinner and by 8:00pm everything was "very quiet" according to Betsey's log.
This trio was Hoot (from Seattle), his girlfriend Sundance (also from Seattle) and her sister O-pop which is short for orange popsicle. When they get into town, one of the things they do is update their blog about their journey! I already told them that when they get to Rangeley, Maine (about 45 minutes from Farmington) to contact me and I will come get them. I can bring whatever supplies they might need from WalMart and take them to get Gifford's Ice Cream.
