Evening in East Glacier

There's probably not much to do in East Glacier at night. Karen and Rodney went out to photograph the Lodge's garden and its lights. At the end of the property is a fence along the road, then the road, then another fence and you're in the back of the Amtrak station. Many of the hotel's guests actually arrive by train. The board in the lobby said the train would be in at 9:49, but it was 10:10 before the passenger train arrived. However, we saw at least two freight trains go by tonight. Busy little town. 

Check out the turn style in the hotel fence. There were two of them. Across the road, you can see that there used to be two on the Amtrak side of the road as well. I wonder what they were for.

Mexican Food in Montana?

Cas, our Red Jammer driver, recommended Serrano's in East Glacier. He highly recommended the key lime pie. We thought, "Mexican food in Montana? Key lime pie in Montana?" But we went any way. Very fun! And quite delicious! The building was built in 1910 and has served a variety of functions prior to its current function as a restaurant. It must be the original wood floors and foundation...the whole place sloped a little towards the front. But we felt secure. While we waited (yes, there was a 20-minute wait), we went to the general store across the street that had children's books, souvenirs, Christmas decorations, a deli, groceries, and home made fudge.

At the general store, I also found an early birthday present for Rodney: a $1.00 converter from 3 prongs to 2. Now he can charge his laptop in our hotel room, which only has 2-prong outlets.

Running Eagle Falls

We drove to Glacier National Park to scope out sunrise photos and check out the scenery. Running Eagle Falls was one of the areas near Two Medicine Lake. We actually stopped twice. The first time, we didn't see the falls, but we did see the crystal clear water and the multiple colors of rocks. The second time we went down a different trail and actually made it to the falls.

Room with a View

We got two rooms both on the second floor (no elevator) on the front side of the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier, MT. This place is so cool...tons of charm. All the rooms have a door to the interior of the lodge and a door to the balcony. We have two doors to the balcony. This is a panaromic of the room, so it looks curved, but the room is so long (long enough for the length of two double beds plus a desk, a closet, and some walking room. 

The balcony extends the full length of the lodge and all the rooms open onto it. It was big enough to do a couple of square dances if you really wanted to.

Luna's

Judy, a Facebook friend and parent I used to babysit for back in the 1970's, now lives in Montana and recommended Luna's Restaurant. So we went! Karen and I split an Indian Taco and we ordered one piece of Huckleberry Pie and four forks for dessert. Many restaurants in the area advertised huckleberry pie.
